Antisana Reserve

This extraordinary place is located in between the provinces of Pichincha to the west and Napo to the east.   It has 120,000 hectares and covers an altitude range of 1400 to 5700 MASL; almost half of it’s habitat is at high altitude.  There are two easy access points, the main access goes through the town of Pintag and climbs to the Mica lake where Quito gets most of its water.  The second access is at the Guacamayos ridge but this one gives limited access to it’s trail system only.

Since the Mica lake and it’s surrounding grounds are very important for Quito, the access is only available through a special permit given by the private land owner of Hacienda Antisana which controls a good portion of the area around the Mica lake.  To obtain permits call Jose Delgado 593 2 2435828.

This is a high altitude site so bring adequate clothing and be aware of altitude sickness.
